Spirit They're Gone Spirit They've Vanished (LP)
Animal Collective
Amoeba Review
Originally released in 2000, Spirit They're Gone Spirit They've Vanished was the debut outing for Avey Tare and Panda Bear before they started making waves as Animal Collective. The band's gleeful experimentalism is in a more meditative mode here, although there's still plenty of room for the colorful chaos and dynamic energy for which they'd become underground darlings. Spirit They're Gone feels as exciting and new as it did when it was first released. With this reissue, Animal Collective prove yet again why they're one of the most innovative, rewarding acts in indie music.
