Sunday Morning Coming Down (CD)
Johnny Cash
Amoeba Review
Jeff Hunt 05/28/2010
Released by Columbia Records in 1972, Sunday Morning Coming Down is Johnny Cash’s thirty-ninth LP. It contains an interesting selection of previously released material, including a couple of songs by Bob Dylan from 1964’s Orange Blossom Express: “It Ain’t Me, Babe” and “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright”; there also the more recent title track by Kris Kristofferson, which was a #1 hit in 1970. There are two classics, “Green, Green Grass of Home” and “Long Black Veil”; there are also several Cash originals: “I’m Gonna Try to Be That Way,” “Understand Your Man,” and the obligatory “Folsom Prison Blues.”
