Supernatural Thing (LP)
M. Ward
Amoeba Review
M. Ward's latest, Supernatural Thing, feels like a celebration of the power of music. These evocative tracks effortlessly conjure a mood, whether Ward and his star-studded cast of collaborators are getting wistful and romantic or letting the good times roll. "Too Young to Die" is a beautiful heartbreaker, with First Aid Kit's distinctive, plainspoken vocals adding an extra level of grace and gravitas. "Supernatural Thing" is an easy-going, languid number with gorgeous harmonies. "New Kerrang," featuring Scott McMicken (Dr. Dog) is a woozy, left-of-center piano ode to stirring things up. Neko Case, Gabriel Kahane, Jim James, Kelly Pratt, and Shovels & Rope also make excellent contributions. Supernatural Thing is M. Ward at his very best.
