Amanda Shires’ new album, Take It Like A Man, is a showstopper. Drawing from Shires’ own life and marriage to Jason Isbell (who plays guitar throughout the album), the tracks find power in the artist’s own rawness and vulnerability. They fuse Shires’ poeticism with her innate sensibility for pop-oriented country/Americana songwriting. Basically, these songs will knock your socks off with their catchy style and structure, before knocking you in the gut with their emotional impact. Produced by Lawrence Rothman (Angel Olsen, Kim Gordon) and featuring appearances from Maren Morris as well as Jason Isbell, Take It Like a Man showcases Shires at her very best.
