Te Whare Tiwekaweka [White Vinyl] (LP)
Marlon Williams
Amoeba Review
New Zealander Marlon Williams' Te Whare T?wekaweka is a wealth of riches. Sung in Maori, the album is lush, vivid, and richly-textured. Williams writes full-bodied folk-meets-pop-meets-country-crooner tracks; the sound feels bigger than life, like the legendary lounge acts of the 1960s. Featuring appearances from Wiliams' usual touring band The Yarra Benders, co-producer Mark Perkins, the He Waka K?tuia singers, and fellow Antipodean Lorde, Te Whare T?wekaweka is original, exciting, and straight up fantastic.
