The Highwomen (LP)
The Highwomen
Amoeba Review

You guessed it: The Highwomen, like the Highwaymen before them, are a country music supergroup. This time around, the star power is all female, featuring the talents of Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires on their self-titled debut. Featuring production from six-time GRAMMY-winner Dave Cobb, the album is a rollicking good time, filled to bursting with down-home country melodies, incredible vocals, and thoughtful lyrics. Along with originals, there’s a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” and “Highwoman,” an homage to the Jimmy Webb-penned “Highwayman” (perhaps The Highwaymen’s most famous track) — in this iteration, Carlile and Shires teamed up with Webb for a rewrite, with guest vocals by Yola Carter and Sheryl Crow singing backup. Essential listening for fans of homespun, real deal country music.
