The Light Below [White Vinyl] (LP)
Walking Papers
Amoeba Review
Seattle band Walking Papers have released their third studio album, The Light Below. Like a more solemn Black Keys or maybe a grittier The National, the blues/rock band revels in brooding, anthemic songs like "What Did You Expect?" Frontman Jefferson Angell has the perfect soulful, sinister voice for this sound, exemplified on the slowly plodding "Divine Intervention." This may be the ideal soundtrack for driving through small towns at night, keeping your distance and nodding warily at strangers.
