The Runner [OST] (LP)
Boy Harsher
Amoeba Review
Boy Harsher continues to evolve their darkwave dance sound with the phenomenal The Runner. Written as an original soundtrack for a short horror film the duo wrote, produced, and directed in the midst of the personal and societal turmoil of 2021, the album is as bristling, atmospheric, and darkly seductive as any of their earlier work. It branches out in some interesting ways, however, making use of icy John Carpenter-esque synth stabs on “Tower” and a Giorgio Moroder-meets-Hi-NRG vibe on “Machina,” which features Ms BOAN. Addictive, dangerous, and imaginative, The Runner is a welcome entry in Boy Harsher’s always excellent catalog.
