Steve Perry’s The Season is an excellent addition to the ever-growing catalog of holiday albums interpreted by legendary rockers. The former Journey frontman keeps it simple and soulful on this collection of classic holiday numbers; he has stated that his aim was to “make sure to record them all in a simple way that honors how I first heard and fell in love with them as a child.” With a musical arsenal consisting of piano, strings, and upright base, Perry does just that. His voice shines on these elegant interpretations, hovering above the cheerful orchestrations, like a bright star on a cold winter’s night. The result is an easy-to-love album that gets the holiday spirit right.
