The Sound Of Yourself (LP)
Mac McCaughan
Amoeba Review
Mac McCaughan (Superchunk, Portastatic) returns with The Sound of Yourself, one of the most rooted, life-affirming of this year’s pandemic albums. McCaughan wrote it in an attempt to keep the days from all blurring together, to glean some kind of understated fulfillment and enjoyment. That sense of possibility in the midst of seeming impossibility anchors the album, giving a buoyancy and hopefulness to the proceedings. McCaughan turned to his friends to keep that atmosphere afloat, and contributions from Michael Benjamin Lerner (Telekinesis), Annie Hayden (Spent), Sabrina Ellis (A Giant Dog, Sweet Spirit), Mackenzie Scott (TORRES), Matt Douglas (Mountain Goats), Mary Lattimore, Yo La Tengo, and Jon Wurster (Superchunk) are all predictably stellar. Essential listening.
