There's No Leaving Now (CD)
The Tallest Man On Earth
Amoeba Review
Not too many young artists have the chutzpah, strum and sneer to take up the mantle of Dylan, but Swedish singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson comes pretty close. Like Dylan, he evokes a summer-y yearning for folk roots and a jaded innocence that's so captivating it drives all other music out of your head when you hear it. The third album from the Tallest Man on Earth establishes his scenic outpost high atop the indie-folk heap, with a concise set of focused epics that achieve most of their glory with just his powerful acoustic guitar and cracked, yearning voice. The plonk of a battered piano and a lonesome pedal steel let in shafts of dusky light here and there. At once free and fatalistic, joyful and resigned, There's No Leaving Now is a great folk statement for those who love the real thing.
