This Is What I Live For (CD)
Blue October
Amoeba Review
Blue October's new album is a companion of sorts to their recent documentary Get Back Up, both dealing with frontman Justin Furstenfeld's personal demons (drug abuse, mental illness) over their 25 years as a band. The album's themes can be strikingly sad but the songs remain cathartic, with the accessible music often buoying the dark lyrics, for example on "The Weatherman," which perfectly captures the tale of a struggling marriage. "Oh My My" and "Completely," on the other hand, are catchy and radio-friendly love songs that transcend such drama.
