This Is Why [Clear Vinyl] (LP)
Paramore
Amoeba Review
After six years away, Paramore are back with their excellent sixth album, This Is Why. The band continues to evolve, blossoming from their emo/pop-punk roots into an indie/post-punk band with yes, some lingering pop-punk sneer. The title track is straight-up killer: it’s an infectious indie number with a punk-pop edge. "C'est Comme Ça" is a tongue-in-cheek, incredibly catchy power pop number about losing your edge. “The News” harkens back to classic Paramore, with angular punk guitars segueing into entrancing, anthemic melodies. This Is Why is an eminently relatable album, with tales of news cycle-inspired anxiety, never leaving your house, and being bored. This one should win the band some new fans while still appealing to longtime supporters.
