Amoeba Review
08/31/2020
Glen Hansard draws on a wider range of inspirations and collaborators for his new record, This Wild Willing, allowing for a slightly more raw and distorted sound. “Fool's Game” may be lush and orchestral, but “I'll Be You, Be Me” is gritty and a bit funky with hushed vocals, building into a crescendo at the end that sounds like the noises of a cityscape. “Race to the Bottom” has a jazzy atmosphere with Middle Eastern flair while “Brother's Keeper” is a straightforward folky ballad. Electronic artists Deasy and Dunk Murphy, Iran's Khoshravesh brothers and Aida Shahghasemi lend their talents to these eclectic, intimate songs about hope and connections.
