Sea Wolf's Alex Brown Church writes about personal struggles on the graceful and aptly-named Through a Dark Wood. The songwriting is strong here, with shades of Bright Eyes, Wymond Miles and Wolf Parade. “Blood Pact” is an early highlight with its slow-but-steady build to a shimmering outro, and “Break It Down” is subtly catchy despite its melancholy tone. “Forever Nevermore” has a gentle groove that propels it forward and into its satisfying chorus.
