Time Fades Away [1973 Sealed] (LP)
Neil Young
Amoeba Review
Jeff Hunt 05/28/2010
Time Fades Away is Neil Young’s fifth solo album; it was recorded live on tour, mostly in the early months of 1973; it was released in October of that year. More to the point, it is the only record in the Neil Young catalog that has never been released on CD. Young puts forth a welter of reasons and excuses, including technical issues, dissatisfaction with the performances, and plain bad vibes, but for collectors, this is the great, lost LP of the 1970s. Compounding the desirability is the fact that these are all original tracks that don’t appear elsewhere. The band is the Stray Gators, which graced 1971’s Harvest, although they trend towards a raucous Crazy Horse vibe here. There is an online petition demanding an official CD version, but don’t hold your breath.
