Today We're The Greatest (CD)
Middle Kids
Amoeba Review
Australia's Middle Kids have released a solid second album of melodic indie rock with Today We're The Greatest. Singer Hannah Joy's vocals range from high and angelic, like on the excellent "Cellophane (Brain)," as its '90s-sounding guitars crash behind her, to low and searching on "Questions," with its moody rhythms and horns. "R U 4 Me?" is irresistibly catchy and "Stacking Chairs" is pretty and uplifting. With personal yet relatable lyrics and strong-but-subtle hooks, this is satisfying pop/rock with plenty of character.
