Traditional Techniques (LP)
Stephen Malkmus
Amoeba Review
07/21/2020
Stephen Malkmus’s latest may be called Traditional Techniques but there’s nothing tired and timeworn about this innovative, unexpected album. The songwriting is crisp and clean while the melodies draw on folk, psychedelia, and global influences. It’s the type of album that refuses to just fade into the background; more than once, you’ll catch yourself getting lost in Malkmus’s clever lyrics and dreamy, dazzling instrumentation. Hats off to the legendary Mr. Malkmus for once again creating an all-killer-no-filler album that comes seemingly out of left-field and becomes a true home run.
