Átta (CD)
Sigur Rós
Amoeba Review
The first new Sigur Rós album in ten years, Átta, enlists a 41-piece orchestra to help create their all-encompassing ambient sound. The album welcomes you with enigmatic, backward-spoken vocals on “Glóð” and then goes on to address darker times on the minimal, mournful “Blóðberg.” Elsewhere “Skel” and “Mór” are somberly cinematic with occasional, hopeful swells. These are meditative, sweepingly atmospheric works, with the uplifting “Gold” standing out like a gentle sunrise.
