It's a testament to the power of HOMESHAKE's songwriting skills that his latest album, Under the Weather, derives such magnetic beauty from the pain that inspired it. At the time of the album's conception, musician and singer-songwriter Peter Sagar was dealing with a deep depression, channeling his emotions into this heartfelt, hazy collection of songs. That undercurrent of sadness connects immediately with the listener; yet, in spite of the album's melancholy subtext, there's a fragile loveliness, even a dreaminess to the tracks. Maybe that's transcendence. Sagar is certainly able to find the grace hidden inside the darkness, which makes Under the Weather a perfect companion for our strange days.
