Unreal Unearth [Light Umber Vinyl] (LP)
Hozier
Amoeba Review
Hozier made his name with the ultra-catchy, soulful "Take Me to Church" and has been steadily showing up as an artist to be reckoned with ever since. On his latest, Unreal Unearth, his songcraft gets even deeper. This is an album in the truest, most old school sense of the word — it's not just a group of songs, it's an experience, meant to be listened to and felt from cover-to-cover. "All Things End" is a wonder of a song: at first haunting and melancholic, the track becomes a remarkable statement of hope and beauty, replete with a gospel choir and all. "De Selby (Part 2)" is kinetic and addictive, a soul-meets-rock 'n' roll ballad that feels totally electric. Unreal Unearth is some of Hozier's finest yet work.
