Vague Tidings (CD)
Elephant Micah
Amoeba Review
The new album from singer/songwriter Elephant Micah (Joseph O'Connor) was inspired by a trip he made to Alaska in 2006, an adventure that furthered his interests in traditional music and folklore. Vague Tidings is suitably enigmatic and mystical, conjuring the wilderness and hauntingly beautiful skies while never becoming sleepy or dragging. "Glacier Advisors" is an intricate and dreamy folk song, with elegant fiddle and wind instruments. The fiddle in "Eastern Callers" gives it an earthy Celtic atmosphere while the piano chords anchor the airy woodwinds of "Return to the Abandoned Observatory."
