Venera [Red Vinyl] (LP)
Venera
Amoeba Review
Venera's self-titled album is moody and mysterious, an unpredictable journey into experimental electronics from the duo of Korn's James "Munky" Schaffer and composer/filmmaker Chris Hunt. Out on Ipecac, this atmospheric collection features dark soundscapes, brutal drums, and a pleasantly nightmarish sonic tension. The tracks brood and bristle before taking the occasional ascent to otherworldly and ethereal beauty. Guest collaborators include Jacob Duzsik (HEALTH), Rizz (VOWWS), Alain Johannes and Deantoni Parks (Mars Volta, John Cale). Immersive, enticing essential listening.
