Viva Zapata! (CD)
7 Year Bitch
Amoeba Review
Joanna Ricco 05/31/2010
!Viva Zapata! opens with vocalist Selene Vigil's commanding voice, “I want it/give it to me/I love it.” Considered an heart-felt tribute album to friend and inspiration, Mia Zapata of punk band The Gits, the record is clearly fueled by pain and rage. This album also marks the first recording by 7 Year Bitch following the death of their original guitarist, Stefanie Sargent. Staying true to the constructs of punk, the release is raw and alarmingly self-aware. “Derailed” is an especially gut-wrenching account of pain and the desire to drive it away.
