Waiting Game [White Vinyl] (LP)
Junior Boys
Amoeba Review
Canadian dance duo Junior Boys are back with their first album in six years, the (perhaps) aptly named Waiting Game. Producers Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus have crafted another collection of songs that’ll stealth mode its way into your heart before delivering an emotional gut punch. That’s what Junior Boys do so well: create a languorous sense of romantic unease that marries pain with pleasure. This time, though, the duo eschews the dance floor for a more contemplative atmosphere. The tracks have a stillness to them, a crystalline, suspended quality like a winter’s morning…with a little New Romantic saxophone thrown in, of course, to set the tone. A haunted, quietly devastating album made for rain-streaked windows and landscapes blanketed with snow.
