We Need To Talk... (LP)
Frightwig
Amoeba Review
Every once in a while, listeners get the joy of discovering (or rediscovering) an old school punk rock band that delivers that classic attitude, leftist political stance, and just straight up great tunes. In this case, it's Frightwig, the San Francisco-based band founded in 1982, with just two records to their discography and a sound that impacted the whole '90s riotgrrrl scene. Their latest, We Need to Talk, is absolutely sizzling with tracks spanning the gamut from...romantic disappointments to political disappointments. The album includes the band's 2014 single "War on Women," which feels like it could've been written this morning, so fresh is the sound, so (still, sadly) topical its concerns. Frightwig influenced everyone from Kurt Cobain to Kat Bjelland: what are you waiting for? Pick up We Need to Talk, like, yesterday.
