We've Been Going About This All Wrong (CD)
Sharon Van Etten
Amoeba Review
Sharon Van Etten’s work has always felt intimate and introspective but her latest, We've Been Going About This All Wrong, pulls back the curtains even further. On this hazy, dreamy, wistful album Van Etten grapples with what we can control, what’s out of our hands, and what we do to cope. On “Home to Me,” she sings about her son while on “Birth” she explores who she is at her essence. Dealing with such themes, the album can at times feel dark but it’s always buoyed by a very smart, human sense of hope. It’s an ideal album for dark days that could use just a bit of sunlight streaming in.
