Dave Gahan is the iconic lead singer of Depeche Mode and most recently featured as lead singer in Soulsavers. The original members of the Depeche Mode recruited Gahan after hearing him sing David Bowie's "Heroes," in 1980. Upon joining the band, Gahan suggested the name "Depeche Mode" after seeing it on the cover of a French fashion magazine. Depeche Mode gained a growing, dedicated audience with their first two albums, Speak & Spell (1981) and A Broken Frame (1981), both reaching the top ten in the UK. 1983's Construction Time Again officially propelled Depeche Mode into international superstardom. Gahan has shared in no less than 15 top ten albums and more than 40 top forty singles with Depeche Mode and the band is one of the biggest alternative acts in music history. Gahan, who continues to serve as frontman for Depeche Mode, has also worked on solo projects, including his solo albums Paper Monsters and Hourglass.
Rich Machin is one half of the English production and remix duo with Ian Glover, known as Soulsavers. They have released four albums: Tough Guys Don't Dance (2003), It's Not How Far You Fall, It's the Way You Land (2007), Broken (2009), and The Light The Dead Sea (2012). Machin has also worked with Mark Lanegan, Mike Patton, Jason Pierce, Will Oldham, Richard Hawley, and Gibby Haynes, all featured on Soulsavers albums. Machin is also a film score composer and his work has been featured in documentaries, television, and film.
The collaboration between Gahan and Machin on The Light The Dead Sea developed after Soulsavers were invited to support Depeche Mode on the European leg of the band's 2010 Tour of the Universe. Released May 2012, The Light The Dead Sea is available on Mute Records.
