After a seven-year hiatus, the mighty Clinic return with an understated yet effective new album, Wheeltappers & Shunters. Channeling classic ‘60s avant rockers like the Velvets and riotous post-punk stalwarts like The Fall and Crime, the Liverpool psychsters have toned down their signature organ sound and turned up the droned-out feedback. As always, there’s a slight melancholy to these songs but this time there’s also a sly humor beneath the band’s excellent storytelling. It’s a promising return fans won’t be able to get enough of.
