White Roses, My God [Clear Vinyl] (LP)
Alan Sparhawk
Amoeba Review
Former Low frontman Alan Sparhawk faces grief head-on on his second solo album -- his first since the death of his wife and bandmate Mimi Parker. Written with a synthesizer and a voice pitch effect that he bought for his children, the album is an intriguingly sparse and DIY electronic affair. Human melodies peek shyly through an unsettling maze of inhuman sounds, as if Sparhawk is still learning how to feel again. "Not the 1" is a standout, pretty track, with its distorted vocal melody floating gently over clattering sounds and murky synths.
