Yesterwynde (CD)
Nightwish
Amoeba Review
Operatic, inventive, and fantastical, Nightwish's latest will transport you to a time more mysterious and epic than our own. But wait — for all its grandiosity, Yesterwynde isn't about a distant, mythical land, unless you consider the past to fit under that heading. The band wrote the album as a meditation on the incredible nature of being human: how the denizens of previous generations, with all their triumphs and tragedies now exist solely as "atoms scattered all over the universe," as bandleader Tuomas Holopainen put it, and how that's where we're inevitably all headed. Yesterwynde is a sweeping, seductive symphonic metal album that's beautifully intense.
