You're The Boss (CD)
Patrick Holland
Amoeba Review
Patrick Holland’s You're The Boss is a fresh, contemporary indie pop album with one foot in the new wave and sophistipop realm of the ‘80s. Having previously worked in the electronic genre as a DJ and performing as Project Pablo and Jump Source, Holland’s work as a producer, remixer, and mix engineer for the likes of TOPS and Cut Copy feels like a bridge between the two genre worlds. Layered with synths, saxophones, and a healthy dose of yearning, the songs manage to be both emotionally resonant and totally danceable. TOPS’ Jane Penny, David Carriere, and Marta Cikojevic contribute wistful, lovely backing vocals that add another dimension to these warm, hazy tracks. The ideal soundtrack to the ephemerality of late summer.
