Zuma 85 (CD)
Allah-Las
Amoeba Review
It's a new day for the Allah-Las. Zuma 85 finds the band once again drawing inspiration from the hazy otherworlds of the past, branching out from the sun-dappled surf sounds of their earlier records. This time there's a little more Berlin than beach to the music, with elements of Kraut, '70s Eno, and even prog infused into the band's languid throwback folk rock. These songs simmer with just-under-the-surface intensity, driven by motorik rhythms, woozy guitars, and psychedelic synths. Zuma 85 is one of those albums that feels like its own magical little world, and it's one you'll never want to leave.
