With HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, Billie Eilish once again proves she's one of the most interesting artists working in pop music today. The album starts off with a sort of muted pastel tone, the melodies subtle yet more upbeat, the light to some of her earlier work's shadow. Part way through the album, there's a shift: the ground we're on is a bit shakier, the neighborhood we're in much less well-lit. There are moments of sheer beauty, moments that haunt and unsettle. Eilish continues to evolve as an artist and her latest will keep you on your toes.
