Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Biography
Ariel Pink (born Ariel Marcus Rosenberg) is an LA-based lo-fi avant-garde pop artist. He began recording music in his home, playing all the instruments including creating the drumming by beat-boxing or mouth-drumming. After passing a CD-R to a member of Animal Collective, they signed him to their Paw Tracks label, reissuing his previously self-released albums, The Doldrums (2004), Worn Copy (2005), and House Arrest (2006).
Ariel Pink originally performed live as a solo artist and one-man band, but when he was asked to open for Animal Collective he recruited the help of some friends to be his live band. Since then, he has continued to perform with a live band and began recording under the name Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti.
In 2009, Ariel Pink signed to 4AD, releasing Before Today (2010) to much acclaim. Our own staff writer called the album "a glorious song symphony, a feast of AM gold pop choruses, creepy synth washes, future vintage new wave cyberfunk, ugly bad-trip prog sludge, and some truly heart-stirring old-fashioned rock loveliness." His most recent album, Mature Themes (4AD), was released in August 2012.
