Bunbury - Biography
Bunbury is the recording name for Spanish singer/songwriter Enrique Ortiz de Landazuri Izarduy. Bunbury got involved in music at a young age, making his debut in a high school band later playing with Proceso Entropico and Zumo de Vidrio. Bunbury then joined Heroes Del Silencio in 1987, becoming popular in the Spanish rock scene. After a successful run with Heroes, releasing over six albums during his time in the band, they eventually broke up in 1996. Bunbury went on to a solo career in 1997, releasing the radically different techno album, Radical Sonora, which was also recorded with some former Heroes del Silencio bandmembers.
In 1999, Bunbury released his darker rock album, Pequeno, followed by the blues influenced Flamingos (2002) and El Viaje A Ninguna Parte (2004). In 2006, Bunbury moved on to a double album, El Tiempo de las Cerezas, with Spanish indie rocker Nacho Vegas and again collaborated with Vegas in 2008 for Hellville De Luxe. The singer/songerwriter's album peaked at number one on the Spanish charts. 2009 saw the release of the pure pop album Las Consecuencias. In 2010, Bunbury collaborated with popular Mexican alternative rock band Zoe, on the single "Nada." Bunbury followed with, Licenciado Cantinas (2011), an album of covers from the "great Latin American songbook." An accompanying short film received a nomination for Best Long Form Music Video at the 13th Latin Grammy Awards. In 2011, Bunbury performed at the Grand Rex Theatre in Bueno Aires and released the live album, Gran Rex.
Palosanto (2013) is Bunbury's latest offering. The album features an array of writing and production styles that encompass elements from previous releases. Bunbury's deep lyrics and well told stories are crafted utilizing various sounds from layered synths to down tempo ballads.
