Jefferson Airplane - Biography
Jefferson Airplane were a super rad San Francisco rock band, whose varied hits "White Rabbit, "Somebody To Love," "Lather," 'It's No Secret"- among many others, helped define the pulsating rock era of the late 1960s/early 70s, before they turned into Jefferson Starship to answer the changing musical times, ultimately becoming a hard rock act until they changed their name to Starship in the 1980s, becoming a chart topping pop group. Over their long history their fiery lead singer Grace Slick seemed to be the only (semi) original member standing- a free spirited woman who spoke her mind and projected a strong character, becoming an icon of the band's first era. Though the band was started by lead singer Marty Balin, his star was usurped by Slick's dominant popularity with in their fan base and the larger culture. Original guitarist Paul Kanter died January 28, 2016 of multiple organ failure. He was 74 years old.
