Lana Del Rey - Biography
Born Elizabeth Woolridge Grant in 1986, to an upper middle class family in Lake Placid, New York, Lana Del Rey thwarts the 'poor little rich girl' tag by producing music of striking originality and odd directives, especially for a pop singer. She released her debut, self titled digital only release in 2010, followed by Born To Die in 2012, the record that launched her world wide career. She then re-issued the LP with an additional record, the Paradise EP, follwed by a short film in 2013, Tropico. Her third LP, Ultraviolence, arrived in 2014. Her influences run wide and deep, but you can easily feel and hear elements of Amy Winehouse, Antony & The Johnsons, Jeff Buckley, movie soundtracks, and torch songs in her music. Lana Del Rey is a contemporary artist working in the modern era of pop music, in an effort to extract a timeless sound that draws listeners to her abilities time and time again. So far she has proven herself by progessing musically with each release, carrying with her a fan base that seems far from letting go.
