Los Amigos Invisibles - Biography
Los Amigos Invisibles is a Venezuelan band now based in New York that combines house, disco, funk, Latin, acid Jazz, and anything else that will fill up the dancefloor. Los Amigos Invisibles is Jose Luis Pardo, Julio Briceno, Armando Figueredo, Mauricio Arcas, Jose Rafael Torres, and Juan Manuel Roura. Since their creation the band has been touring constantly, cementing their reputation for incindiary live shows.
Their debut album, A Typical and Autoctonal Venezuelan Dance Band, was released in Venezuela in 1995. Their second album and their first American record, The New Sound of the Venezuelan Gozadera, was released on David Byrne's Luaka Bop label in 1998. They followed it up with Arepa 3000: A Venezuelan Journey Into Space (Luaka Bop, 2000) and the Masters At Work produced album, The Venezuelan Zinga Son, Vol. 1 (Luaka Bop, 2004). They released their next album, Superpop Venezuala (2006) which was produced by Dimitri From Paris, on their own imprint, Gozadera Records.
In 2009, they released Commercial (Nacional Records), which included special guests Jorge Gonzalez (Los Prisioneros) and Mexican songstress Natalia Lafourcade. The album went to number one in Venezuala and earned them their 5th career Grammy nomination and their first Latin Grammy for Best Latin Alternative Album. They followed it up with 2011's Not So Commercial (Nacional Records), a collection of outtakes and tracks leftover from the Commercial sessions. Not So Commercial was nominated for Best Latin Pop, Rock Or Urban Album at the 2012 Grammys. Their eighth album, Repeat After Me, is due out April 2, 2013 on Nacional Records.
