Mac DeMarco - Biography
Slacker rock singer Mac DeMarco grew up in Edmonton, Alberta under the name Vernor Winfield McBriare Smith IV. He moved to Vancouver after high school graduation, releasing albums under the moniker Makeup Videotape and working on psychedelic video art. In 2011, he moved to Montreal and began recording under the name Mac DeMarco, working on a road paving crew and signing up for medical experiments to make ends meet. In early 2012, Captured Tracks released DeMarco's debut EP, Rock and Roll Night Club.
A couple month's after DeMarco's first EP hit stores, Captured Tracks released his first full-length, 2. In spring 2014, DeMarco put out Salad Days, which was recorded in his Brooklyn apartment after a year and a half of touring in support of his previous releases. The album was shortlisted for the 2014 Polaris Music Prize. DeMarco performed at Amoeba San Francisco July 9, 2014.
