Merle Kilgore - Biography
Merele Kilgore, one of country music's most famous songwriters- he co wrote "I Walk The Line" with June Carter (he is a distant cousin of The Carter Family), is not well known as a performer himself, none of his records ever reaching high on the C&W charts (he scored 2 Top ten hits in his entire career), yet his many compositions ("Wolverton Mountain," "Johnny Reb," "The Folksinger," "More & More," "The Easy Way," "Tiger Woman") were million sellers for other artists such as Eddy Arnold, Ricky Nelson, and John Anderson. He was best man at Johnny Cash's wedding to June Carter (Cash), and was Hank Williams Jr.'s manager for over 20 years ( Merle had the honor as a young man to carry Hank Williams Sr.'s guitar for him.) He died of heart failure in 2005, at the age of 70.
