Mike Scott - Biography
Scottish-born singer, songwriter and author Mike Scott is best known for his work with The Waterboys. While in college in the late '70s, Scott founded his own punk 'zine before forming his first band, The Bootlegs, which would later evolve into Another Pretty Face. The band achieved moderate success, signing with Virgin Records, touring with Stiff Little Fingers and and landing the cover of Sounds magazine. After the dissolution of this project, Scott formed The Waterboys in 1983, the same year the band's self-titled debut was released.
In 1984, A Pagan Place followed. A year later, the LP This Is the Sea gave the band their best-selling single, "The Whole of the Moon." As the band's career progressed, their sound moved from rock to a more Celtic-inspired direction. In the mid to late '90s, Scott released a couple of solo albums, Bring 'em All In and Still Burning. He founded an indie label, Puck Records, in 2003. In 2012, he published an autobiography, Adventures of a Waterboy. The latest studio album from The Waterboys, Modern Blues, hit stores in April 2015.
