Starz - Biography
STARZ were a 1970s hard rock band who played an arena rock not entirely unlike Cheap Trick, Sweet, Angel, Kiss, or Montrose- being somewhat an amalgimation of all, producing a total of 4 LPs between 1976-1978, expressing this style of riff rock mash up perfectly. Lead singer Michael Lee Smith, brother of teen pop heart throb and Solid Gold Co- Host Rex Smith, posessed a pliable, flexible, elastic voice that played well to the band's power pop and proto heavy metal leanings. They never scored any large hits in their time, but became an influence on a generation of glam rockers, most notably Poison and Motley Crue. The band still plays out sporadically.
