T.Raumschmiere - Biography
T. Raumschmiere is the nom de plume of Marco Haas, an electro-punk and schaffel producer who also performs as part of several other acts.
Marco Haas was born in 1975 in Heidelberg, Germany. Growing up, he favored industrial, punk and hardcore. From 1991 to 1996 he played drums with Marcus Stotz in the duo, Zorn who released the Heftig aufflammender Unwille EP and the full-length Denn alle Lust will Ewigkeit. He also started an improvisational noise duo with Ulli Bomans called shrubbn!! In 1997, as part of the rock band, Stormbow, won a contest and used the prize money to start the label Shitkatapult.
Also that year, Haas adopted the moniker T. Raumschmiere, which he derived from William S. Burroughs’s “The Dreamcops,” a short story whose title was translated into German as “Die Traumschmiere.” 1997 was the year the Missourian author passed away. The following year, Haas moved to Berlin and released his earliest recordings on a series of Shitkatapult compilations called Cozmick Suckers. In Berlin, he also began working on a stage project called Pop Poisoned Poetry and started a monthly event, Erlösung Durch.
In 2000, Haas returned to drumming as part of the metal-punk band Mos Eisley Rock. The following year, as T. Raumschmiere, he played and DJed extensively. In October, he released The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle (2002 Shitkatapult), which compiled his earlier recordings. Shortly after, his proper debut, Anti (2002 Hefty) was released by Hefty Records. After winning several polls, T.Raumschmiere was offered a deal with Novamute, who released the ugly, stomping, glorious single “Monstertruckdriver.” Radio Blackout (2003 Novamute) was more accessible album than previous releases and likely an influence on Goldfrapp’s drastic change in musical direction from soaring epics to glitter-inspired electronic pop. That year they had him remix their single, “Train.” More remixes followed in 2004, for Quasimodo Jones. That year Haas assembled drummer Dirk Mielenhausen and bassist Andreas Paruschke for live performances in Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands and Spain.
Blitzkrieg Pop (2005 Novamute) offered more of T. Raumshmiere’s abrasive strain of schaffel. Random Noize Sessions, Vol. 1 (2006 Shitkatapult), on the other hand, compiled more mellow recordings from 1999 to 2005. In 2006, he played and DJ'd extensively with both his band and Mos Eisley Rock, by then renamed The Crack Whore Society. With Daniel Meteo and Florian Schmieg, Haas founded the publishing company Random Noize Musick GmbH. T. Raumschmiere returned in 2008 with the recording I Tank U (2008 Shitkatapult) and continue to perform frequently.
