Amoeba Hollywood
Trip-Hop head. Shoegaze blood. House/Hip-Hop Soul. Poet heart.

Long time fan of Hiatus Kaiyote. Their exquisite funk-soul sound blew me away from first listen a few years ago. Nai Palm's vocals are heavily influenced by Stevie Wonder and her deliverance in live performances always brings me to tears.

Purple Rain (LP)

Prince

His Royal Badness, the beloved Purple One and only....this year marks the 40th anniversary of Purple Rain and I am grateful everyday of my life to have been raised with this album in my household not knowing how truly impactful it would be to my life in later years...Prince will forever be the most controversial, groundbreaking untouchable master of cultivating a world entirely of his own where he broke all rules proving evidence of his brilliance in the sounds and energy of all that is purple... "When Doves Cry", "I Would Die 4 U" and "Let's Go Crazy" continue to be the most indelible songs to this day.

Synthesizer Enthusiast by day, Enjoyer of Silence by night

Natasha Khan's latest album is described as an ode to her daughter and their closeness. It is filled with lush synth melodies and vocal flourishes. It's epic nostalgia but there's a sense of urgency.

The UK trio are known for slick production and lyrics that yearn. Their latest is catchy with lyrics that long for past loves, see "Shipwreck" feat. King Krule. It's a perfect alternative album to reflect on your last breakup.

Mi Amor

Pür Royale
Shameless plug for the new record on my label, Must Have Records (because it is a must have). Sleazy, tough, sensual SP-1200 produced latin house from 1993. Produced by unsung Long Beach hero (and engineer on "The Chronic) Greg Royal. Tough bassline, erotic, a no brainer. Read more

Wax
Another sensitive techno banger from René Pawlowitz, a man of many names, but mostly known as Shed. One of the few active European producers I'll always check out, Shed rarely misses and this is no exception. Read more

Brutus (LP)

Specter
Chicago O.G. Specter has been quietly producing some of the best and most interesting underground house music since 2001. His latest LP on Theo Parrish's Sound Signature, a tribute to his beloved dog, Brutus, marks yet another evolution of his sound. Drawing on abstract techno, and even ambient influences Spec once again makes it clear that no one else can do it quite like he does. One for the heads, shoulders, knees, and toes. Read more

Hard Copy (LP)

VR Sex
A substance-induced synth punk Odyssey through the darkest corners of Los Angeles. It’s psychedelic; it's electronic; it's atmospheric; it's dystopian. This type of Orwellian punk is the perfect backing for the strange, off-kilter, bleak city stories told throughout the tracklist. Read more

45 years into their career, Redd Kross seem to finally be getting their due. A new career spanning documentary and book are on the way, but first is this self-titled double album. Without feeling too self-referential, the band are able to make subtle nods to their younger selves while just ripping through 18 garage-y power pop tracks with as much energy as they've ever had. I guess when you start your band at 15 and 11, you can still sound vital 45 years later.

Matt Pike put out a varied, very pandemic era solo album but is now back with his long running band and this time around seems happy to chug away in classic High On Fire style. Nothing too fancy here, just more riffs to blow your hair back. Sometimes less is more and this one never lets its foot off the gas.
